On their first full-length, Seattle’s Stag present songs that are universally appealing and deceptively sunny featuring dark lyrics delivered with exhilarating guitars and pretty pop melodies that hook the imagination whether a listener is looking back or charging forward through life. Charles Cross described them thusly, “It is music that makes an experienced listener feel young, or a young listener feel understood, which is exactly why it seems so true to the essence of what great rock ‘n’ roll is always about — possibility and yearning.” With an arsenal of musical weapons, the band switches gears from crunchy rock n’ roll to breezy pop tunes to punk-tinged rock n’ roll with clear-eyed honesty and a charming lack of angst.
THE PURRS // thepurrs.com
The Purrs are not your typical Northwest psych outfit. They have been hard at it for a decade and show no signs of letting up. Hundreds of alcohol and sweat soaked shows, several national tours and 5 releases that have been touted by tastemaker radio, swooned over by critics and adored by fans throughout the Pacific Northwest and far beyond. Their sound is uniquely their own – they delicately and expertly walk that tightrope of psych and pop with swirling hints of shoegaze bubbling up to the surface.
